LAWS3101 – Income Tax Law 78.6

Get yourself into a good tutorial. You simply need explanation rather than just solid answer. Pay particular attention on how to answer the question be it in discussion form or working out the taxable income.

Its an open book exam, simply put much effort on understanding the content before coming to exam rather memorising it. Questions in the final and mid are mostly discussed during lectures and tutorials.

Spend extra time to read the study notes before attempting the tutorial questions.

Its hard but not impossible. Greater effort leads to greater result

LAWS3101 – Income Tax Law 85.3

One of the most organised and well structured courses I have done. The content, although there is a lot and can be difficult at times, is very intellectually stimulating and useful in personal life. The lecturers Ross and Thea are both very good. You are provided with lots of additional content (study notes) which are extremely helpful at supplementing the lecture material. The mid semester exam (open book) requires a lot of work in little time, so you need to make sure you aren't heavily relying on the study material you bring in as you can't waste much time. Tutorials are definitely worth going to and completing the tutorial work before you attend as they don't post answers and won't allow you to take photos of slides. The final exam is not as time pressured as the mid sem, however, completing the past exams is heavily recommended. The entire 'Tax Kit' recommended for the course isn't necessary, the only textbook you need is the 'Principles of Taxation Law' as that includes the important information from the other textbooks included in the kit.
