METR4201 – Introduction to Control Systems 89.6

Mech students beware never have I worked so hard and gotten so thoroughly rekd. This course is hard with a side of psychopathic. On the other hand the content is extremely interesting and it's perhaps one of the most useful courses in the degree. Just prepare yourself.

METR4201 – Introduction to Control Systems 91.4

This course is relatively difficult and would be near the top of my list in terms of the amount of material learnt and the difficulty of the material; however, the course is run extremely well mainly due to Ross and his teaching techniques. He is always available and happy to sit down and talk to you about the course (or anything else). He is very friendly and knows the course material very well. I found the practicals very interesting and we actually got to implement our own PID control system and see if it worked/how well it worked. The course is has a large workload, the practical reports/assignments got up to 25 pages regularly and were only worth %5 of the course. The tutors said the assignments could be much smaller; although, a large majority of the cohort found it hard to decrease the size without missing important information and hence getting marked down. Overall is a hard course, requires a good work ethic but teaches you A LOT about PID control and how it works within the industry. I would not take this course if you are looking for a cruisy time but if not, Ross teaches it well, makes it enjoyable and in the end you are left with a significant amount of new knowledge. Could do with some more examples of problems.
