This course seemed relatively difficult but I ended up doing really well in it.. There were a few problems with the marking of the assignments, so maybe they just marked less harshly.
The content in this course is really quite core to a lot of business theories. You will see a lot of it touched on in other courses, but this course goes in to just the right amount of detail. It is no wonder this course is a compulsory course for BBusMan. It could be run better, but the course itself is really great and definitely useful.
One downside is they tend to only analyse huge companies... They don't really give you any info on small-medium businesses. However, that can be said of most UQ business courses.
The presentation assignment was fairly good. Everyone in my tutorial for 15/15 for it (again, could be easy markers). The written assignments are quite a pain in the but to figure out (a lot of it doesn't seem super concrete when you are writing it). The final exam caught me off guard, as they asked a question about Ethics, when nothing about Ethics was taught in the course.
The course was handled very poorly in the semester I took it. The blackboard structure was a bit crap and the uploading of grades and slides was late.
The content in the course is pretty useful. A lot of stuff about big companies and corporations... A lot of things many people wont use.
The biggest problem with this course was the handling of the assignment... Part 1 of the assignment was marked 2 weeks late, and then an extension was given until HALF WAY THROUGH SWOTVAC.... Thus we all needed to worry about an assignment until way after semester had finished. I have yet to complete the course, but I am sure that the assignment won't be fully marked until way after the semester ends for real.
Not only that, but once I received my assignment marks, I was very disappointed. The marker wrote that I did not use a certain method of analysis when I CLEARLY DID... The person who marked my assignment clearly had difficulty with the English language (judging from their comments)...
This is one of the worst experiences I have had with a course almost entirely due to this assignment marking. It has ruined my entire schedule and has put a lot of stress on me.
The lecturer is boring and does not seem to be able to stimulate interaction or interest. He also has a heuristic stutter that he uses almost every second word... "Y'know"... but he can't help it. The lectures aren't worth attending.
