This course will teach you a lot of really interesting and useful things if you are in to market research. The assignment is HUGE, and resembles a thesis, so prepare yourself. They say the word limit on the main assignment is 5,000 words, however mine was over 16,000 words, and many of my friends got over 20,000 words. That being said, you need that many words, since there is so much to write about!
Len has a very interesting and different teaching style compared to other lecturers at UQ. He basically forces you to go to the lectures (by making the recordings bad), which is extremely effective in making you learn the content. He gives you the questions that will be on the final exam (further incentivising lecture attendance), but that does not make it any easier. You are expected to write 10-13 pages in 2 hours for the final exam, which is basically just a huge knowledge dump.
The main assignment in this course will likely end up being something that you use in a portfolio for getting a job. It's a full on research project, so only do this course if you are prepared to forego your social life or sleep.
As far as learning materials go, you cannot just use the lecture slides. You NEED to go to the lectures. The blackboard is almost entirely managed by the tutor, Tom. Len never responds to emails, since he is very busy. Therefore, the tutor does almost all of the support work.
Overall, this course definitely serves its purpose well. If you are looking to learn a lot about market research, take this course. If not, by no means should you even consider taking this course because it will destroy you.
