STAT2201 – Analysis of Engineering & Scientific Data43.0
A very boring course, where almost no one attends the lectures. Lecture notes aren't very useful, and contains a lot of reading. Best way to study for final are the sample exams they release. It is also highly recommended to do the at-home component of the tutorial before the tute, as you will be short on time. Overall, not a very difficult course.

Haven't finished the course yet, but decided to try and pump this one out while it was still fresh in my mind.
Firstly, the lectures are atrociously set up. The notes themselves sometimes are far too in-depth for the course and thus it becomes difficult to figure out what is going to be assessed and just feel 'bloated'. The lecture itself is made up of the lecturer going through the notes and mainly repeating what is already there. This makes it really hard to concentrate and get through them, and made them kind of pointless.
Tutorials were very good, but there just wasn't enough time. In fact, they're pretty much there for the assessment, and questions in-class about something other than the current assessment (say the final exam) was impossible. But my tutor knew his stuff and was super helpful. [Make sure do read the tutorial before you attend]
I didn't attend many lecturers (mainly echo'd them) but attended all the tutorials and quizzes and am set up fairly well for the final. And I think that's the problem. The course seems easy to pass, so no one really cares when they move on.
This is a 2 unit course struggling to be a 1 unit course and needs some serious improvements.

Given that every engineer I know hasn't used more complicated statistics than means and medians, this course is already a giant waste of time. The lectures are disengaging and the tutes teach you very little about how to actually apply the lecture content. The only partly useful part are the sample questions Dr Wilson goes through at the beginning of the lectures - this the only part worth watching on Echo. If you can somehow complete your engineering degree without having to do this course, congratulations.

Lecture attendance is almost an instantaneous drop-off (from someone who went to every lecture) from week 2 as everybody realises how much of a wast of time it truly is. The content is taught 10x better by the handouts that the lecturer just fills in. There are no chances to sit down with a tutor and actually understand any of the mathematics or processes for any taught concepts, and the only available tute time is wasted with questions that dont relate to the subject (like "paraphrase this paragraph"), and wont allow any actual learning of processes that isnt using software.
the grade structure is also very strange, with weekly tutes being graded different weights each time, and quizzes also having no constant grading structure. This just starts all the weird and wonderful parts of the subject, which has its entire online material posted not on blackboard, but also emailed to you every time (just in case you needed to know there was a spelling mistake in the previous announcement).
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Dr. Wilson means well but his teaching methods are so boring! He needs to try harder to liven things up a bit. The lecture material is a whole lot of text and the important things are not clearly identified when printed in black and white. The tutorials he sets up are good. The same goes with the quizzes.
