Dr Chris Leonardi 74.2

Chris is one of the friendlier lecturers in UQ Engineering as he generally goes out of his way to invest himself in your education from a distance and always has his door open for a quick / lengthy consultation regarding anything to do with his courses or Mining Engineering in general.

He has a very direct approach to how to examines and marks which can be a negative if you're wording isn't exactly like his.

Overall enjoyed both courses taught by Chris and came away far more knowledgeable.

Which course did you take? (e.g. MGTS1301)

MINE3120, MINE3122

Positives
  • Always available for consultations IRL
  • Easy to get along with
Negatives
  • High expectations
  • Very specific in terms of what he's looking for when marking
  • Doesn't make resources easily accessible

Dr Chris Leonardi 13.2

It may be a coincidence, but every course that Chris co-ordinates does not use lectopia, which makes management of clash clashes very difficult. Chris is reluctant to post all relevant course material to blackboard. In most courses he runs, he will only give relevant course documents once students begin asking him too, and in some cases, not at all. Chris is a relatively lazy lecturer, and will generally spend lectures reading power point slides. This may be the reason he does not bother recording lectures, but unfortunately this means that some students miss out on listening to interesting guest lecturers.

Chris would appear to have a sort of 'superiority complex' which results in him talking down to students, and being generally unhelpful and difficult to approach. It is difficult to speak to him about course material without being made to feel you are stupid, or inferior to Chris. Do not even bother trying to get any information from chris via email as he will either ignore you, or send a fairly rude reply that may or may not contain the answer to any question you had.

On the positive side, most of the courses that Chris co-ordinates has a secondary lecturer, so there is generally an alternative to having to speak to him.
