Lectures are not worth attending. She frequently strays from slide material, provides irrelevant anecdotes, speaks for too long about tangential subject matters, and is unable to control student participants. She has a warped idea of what a lecture should look like, and as a result REALLY struggles to get her points across in any sort of clear and concise manner. Often gets lost in what she is trying to teach, and fails to emphasise key information, resulting in lectures that are difficult to study. She also enjoys providing a spotlight to mature age students, who apparently get a kick out of distracting the class with their 10 minute monologues of personal experiences and anecdotes that provide no benefit to everyone else's learning experience. Lectures go on far too long, and leave you wondering why you got up at 7am to listen to her eventually make her point.
Her political bias becomes extremely apparent early on in the course, and becomes pervasively intrusive around week 10 (content on obesity). Unless you are a social justice warrior, prepare to be consistently distracted by her frustrating perspectives on women, public health policies, obesity and breastfeeding.
She invited irrelevant guest lecturers; one lecture involved balloons (as breasts), hula hoops, screaming kids running around, time wasting activities and other gimmicks in an effort to make her dreary subject more interesting.
Assessment has criteria that is difficult to interpret, and awkward to complete with group members. Fairly easy to get good grades in assessment at least.
The exam is on content that is unnecessary to know off-by-heart, and feels pointless. An essay would make more sense, and provide students with the ability to display their understand of course content and apply what they have learned.
This is without doubt the worst course I have undertaken in my 4 years of study. My advice for potential students is that you save yourself the time; watch all the lectures online on 2x speed. Lisa means well, and seems lovely, but her course has a lot of room for improvement, and I hope she reads this before her next semester.
Lisa is quite frankly the worst lecturer I have ever had. She is absurdly bias in her political opinions and tries to force her view onto the class. Her actual lecture content is non-existant and she spends most of the lecture wasting her, and everyone else's time. I have turned up twice to have her force her opinions on the class and to learn absolutely nothing. She only communicates with small portions of the class and lacks the ability to control a small lecture. Her feedback on assignment is weak, although a relatively easy marker.
