Dr Philip Sharpe 100.0

Dr Sharpe was absolutely brilliant - I had him as a lecturer for both CHEM1090 and CHEM1221 and in both courses he went above and beyond to help you pass (and do as well as you good) in both courses. He is very good at explaining all of the concepts (and doesn't mind repeating them more than once!) and will give you as much extra help as you need. Dr Sharpe clearly loves chemistry and his dry jokes throughout the lectures were always a bit lame but helped you to see chemistry as something that isn't always black and white and has numerous functions and implications in everyday life. One of the best lecturers at UQ thanks Dr Sharpe!

Dr Philip Sharpe 98.3

Chem1100 was an absolute eye opener. I wasn't looking forward to studying chemistry because of my experience at high school. University though is so much different, the lecturers know the content like the back of their hands and they are able to make it very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed Dr Sharpe's lectures. He made the content seem very easy whilst also making it enjoyable, through the use of colourful jokes. For instance, "what do you get for crossing a dragon with a unicorn... a rhinoceros. Or the stamp joke that was a classic... "what did the forger say at his defense at his trial for selling counterfeit stamps? Imitation is the sincerest form of philately", I was the only person in my row that laughed at that one. Nonetheless jokes aside, Dr Sharpe's lectures were fantastic and actually gave me confidence to pursue chemistry. The practicals were also excellent. The content was inline with the lectures very well. I particularly enjoyed the titration experiment, although it brought back some horrible memories from school. Chem1100 is by far the best course I'm currently currently doing and Dr Sharpe has been the best lecturer I've had so far.
