While the course is engaging, the MCQs are extremely unfair - they include two statements but they can be on completely different topics. Thus, your forced to know EVERYTHING and are not given a chance to show partial understanding of the course content.
This course covers a lot of content that has a practical application to real world topics. Overall the course is difficult and the assessment is fairly difficult (assignments require a lot more time and effort than you initially think). Don't be fooled by the multiple choice exam as the majority of the questions include 2 statements (true/false for each statement) meaning that it is very difficult to get the question correct unless you understand the content (unlike most multiple choice questions where you can easily rule out incorrect answers). Mark is a fantastic lecturer and uses great examples and has some funny one liners that help you remember what he was talking about in the lecture. The structure of the course was excellent with the heavy content focused on at the start and then applied and related to later lecture topics. The question hoard activity and weekly quizzes were really helpful study tools and provided useful feedback - without them I would have been very unprepared for the final exam!
Semester 2 - 2014
Bachelor of Psychological Science
Is lecture attendance necessary?
No - But very helpful
Is the textbook necessary?
Low stakes quizzes great for revision and learning
Lecturer is excellent at making content interesting
Good lecturer - well organised, thoughtful, practical, knowledgable. Very challenging course - pay attention, make sure you understand all the nuances of each topic, use all material that you are given, ask for help and clarification when you need it. Study hard for a good grade, seriously, can't wing this one! The exam is particularly hard as it incorporates information from all the lectures, although it is on par with the practice exam. Work hard and early on the assignments, and use swot vac for exam preparation if you want a 7!
Mark is an amazing lecturer, probably one of the best i have had throughout my university experience.
However the course itself is challenging and the quiz questions are deceptively hard as often its simply changes in the wording.
I would highly recommend taking PSYC3010 beforehand - I didn't and I regretted it the entire semester.
The course is really challenging but the lecturer is awesome and attempts to make the lectures much better than they would be otherwise.
