Learning materials: The lectures mainly followed Dirk’s textbook and assignment questions were also from the textbook. The textbook is available on the UQ library website. Although the lectures were not recorded Dirk took photos of the board and uploaded them to blackboard after each lecture. The Matlab scripts shown in class were also uploaded onto Blackboard. Assignment solutions were not uploaded after each assignment.
Learning activities: Lectures were structured well and logical. Dirk likes to call student’s names to answer questions each lecture so be prepared! Practicals were useful for the assignment questions which required Matlab coding. Tutorials were great for covering concepts in lectures and getting assignment help.
Blackboard management: Site was easy to navigate. The course outline was placed out well ahead of schedule so pre-reading was easier. Assignments were uploaded on time and announcements were made regularly.
Course Content: Some of the course content can be challenging as it is mainly conceptual. If you understand the content instead of memorizing it becomes more manageable. The Matlab coding for assignments is mostly using while/for loops and if statements.
Course Structure: The course content flows and is well structured. The assignments helped us prepare for the final. Some assignment questions were tough and require thinking. During the last week, Dirk went through 1.5 past papers which was helpful.
Contact availability: There was enough support in the course from Dirk and the tutor. Dirk also had consultation times throughout the week.
Course Difficulty: This course covers a lot of content! It can be difficult conceptually but once you understand what’s going on it isn’t too bad. Keep on top of the work each week.
