WRIT2250 – Writing: Grammar, Syntax, and Style95.7
Great course, lecturer (Beck Wise) is incredible. Explains concepts in so many ways, very inclusive and empathetic towards student life. Lots of support and sets aside two hours every week for students to come to her for help without an appointment. Tutorials are also great and Megan Porter is an excellent tutor, very approachable, easy going and understanding about class participation. She emails you all of the resources and extra for the week after the tutorial. Lectures aren't a regurgitation of the textbook, and tutorials aren't a regurgitation of the lectures, so three opportunities to learn concepts in different ways.

This course was really easy to pass, but takes a lot of work. The in class quizzes are ridiculously, over the top hard, to the point where the tutor was saying that barely anybody was getting more than 50% by the last couple of quizzes. The quizzes also had nothing to do with the test, which was really annoying.
Another problem was that they asked us to post our assessed blogs onto blackboard for everybody to see and then didn;t really monitor it at all after that.
The lecturer (Ros) read off of the slides for the whole lecture which were basically copy-pasted out of the textbook, so I found going wasn't really necessary, I just printed out the slides and googled if I didn't understand something she wrote, which actually helped a lot. I ended up going to the lecture like 2 times.
Also, the lecturer left for a holiday just before the exam, which was kinda annoying.
Apart from the quizzes, the tutorials were really the most helpful. We did lots of exercises with things that were going to be on the test (which was open book, hallelujah) and as long as you had plenty of notes from the tutorials, I found that was all that you needed for the exam, which I got an easy 98% on.
Overall, a good subject to do if you go to the tutorials and write notes for the exams, not worth going to the lectures.
