Overall the course was practical and a really valuable course to take to get a grasp of basic accounting principles. In saying this, the lectures were extremely dry and painful to get through and the tutorials always finished early and essentially only helped in the online quizzes but did nothing for final exam prep. There is a high expectation level for the group assignment so you can't get away with doing the bare minimum. The final exam was easy enough provided you knew how to do at least one final exam in full as they essentially replicate each other with a few minor changes. Final lecture is absolutely crucial in preparation for final exam.

Yes for the online quizzes
I thought this was a great course. I completed the course in 2016, and enjoyed playing the VBE. The course coordinators were super helpful and willing to assist with any issues I faced. The online quizzes were not difficult because you get two attempts to answer the questions. The tutorials were also very helpful for completing the group assignment and for the final exam. Make sure you get a good group for the completing the group assignment.

This course is relatively easy if you have done accounting and do the practice questions. Online quizzes are easy but group assignment is quite hard. VBE is fun, and mainly for practicing decision making process and to generate financial statements for the business plan.

BIHTM
Not really

Hands on approach to learning accounting and delving into team environments. Lots of content to make expectations very clear and many extra resources on hand. If you do the work and use the teaching staff effectively this is a good course.

the course is not that hard when it comes to understanding the topics, and you could easily not go to any lectures and still understand everything from the tutorial work. lectures are way too long and boring to go anyway. the tutorials run for way too long and don't hep much with the assignment pieces as you're only marked on the last 4 lectures.
its annoying that you are required to have the textbook if you wanna succeed in the tutorials work, as many questions and information used in the 2 HOUR tutorial comes from the book.
Lastly the group assignment is 30% and its too hard and annoying to do with a shitty group, wich is pretty much chosen for you.

hell no

Lectures were very boring and hard to get through. Tutorials unnecessary to attend- very long and not helpful. The group assignment was very hard- they expect a tonne of detail and very high standard, especially given its a first year course. Online quizzes are easy marks.

The course was terrible. The major assignment especially had no clear instructions and was barely relevant to the VBE that they force you to do. The financial documents did not make sense or match up to what was happening in the VBE. Lectures was overly long and tedious, and did not cover examples very well. Little to no information or support was given for the assignment.
Overall, would definitely not recommend this course.

Not really, but handy to have.
Really a terrible course, lectures were so boring i contemplated suicide on numerous occasions and the tutes went for two hours and were completely useless in preparing you for the final exam. You could literally not go to a single lecture or tute and simply do the practice exam and pass.
Also if this hasn't convinced you that the course is terrible, there is a 30% group assignment that is 100% guaranteed to give you cancer
Semester 1 - 2015
business/econ
absolutely not
dear god no
The lectures were very boring and the 2 hour tutorials were not helpful nor necessary. The course is relatively easy if you have previously studied accounting, would not recommend if you haven't. The group assignment is very difficult and the VBE in world sessions often crash/experience errors. The assignment is also difficult if you have bad group members and the tutors mark harshly. The final exam is fairly easy if you complete the practice/sample exam multiple times.
Semester 1 - 2015
B Commerce/ B Arts
No- lectures just read off the slides
Yes - much clearer explanations and examples
This is one of the easiest courses you'll ever do, granted its a first year course but still, an easy 7 if you watch a few of the lectures and go to all the assessable workshops and tutorials. Be aware though that the group assessment is quite hard if you are stuck with lazy group members so choose them carefully!
Textbook is somewhat necessary as major points in the lecture are back but each chapter (ie week 1, chapter 1).
Great assessment weighting to maximise your grad before going into final exam.

Not really but still go in case lecture recordings don\'t work
Not really, lecture notes covers everything
Lectures were very boring and tutorial exercises / explanations not helpful as they just rehash the lectures and don't really look at the material in more detail. Luckily it is easy enough to work out the problems yourself from the slides and lectures before the exams. No textbook is needed as all relevant information is on the slides and can be followed easily.

This course is difficult if you have not done accounting before and I would not recommend itif you have no previous accounting knowledge (even though this is a first year course). The lecturer is dull and hard to listen/learn from. You will learn the most from tutes and the workshops, I would defo not miss these.

This is the worst Accounting course I have done in my life.
> Formulae that are different from what the rest of the world uses.
> Lot of errors in Quizzes and a lot of ambiguity.
> Supposed to be an 'Introductory' course but doesn't explain the basic principle of double entry.
> Also you have to complete an assignment which involes in analying a company's finacial position (worth 25% of total marks) which is rather a difficult job given that this is an introductory course.
Semester 1 - 2014
Bachelor of Economics
Yes
No
There are no real prerequisites for this course as only basic mathematics is used. The subject was relatively straight forward. Will teach you the basics of accounting which should help the budding economist and businessman with their future studies. Also a great course for any student as the basics of how a business works and what affects it's output is covered. The lectures themselves can be very dull and the average student could get away with not attending them. The assessment consists of a Mid-Sem, Group Assignment and Final. Overall a well structured course with important content.

No but recommended.
Yes.
Pretty easy course. Gives really basic info and glosses over a lot of topics... Would like a bit more detail. Needs to be less general.
