BIOC3003 – Human Molecular Genetics & Disease 89.1

The assessments were great, as first PBL actually covered a lot of relevant contents that would help you to get a better understanding of the course. The second and last PBL were great as well, as it went through contents that are relevant to lectures. The lab was organized well and the tutors were great, as they were happy answer questions regarding the lab report. The most stressing part of this course is the final exam. Definitely don't use the past exam papers to help you to to study, as the questions changed dramatically every year. The best way to study for final exam would be go through the lecture notes. The final shouldn't be too hard if you go to all the lectures and revise the contents regularly. The complex gene disorder section was confusing, as the lecturer went through a lot of contents, but tested some graph stuff which were not really covered in the lectures. The cancer genomic and single gene disorder were probably the fairest module. The microbiome and epigenetic modules were difficult, as the lecture slides are mostly diagrams, so it was hard to went through the contents beforehand. Overall, the course was great and the final exam was alright, as they actually didn't test that many contents. Most of the questions derived from the summary slides, so it is really alright. Don't bother go through past exam papers, so they don't you help at all. Textbook was good at explaining concepts regarding birth defects.

By the way, I did this course in 2018 semester 2.
