BIOL2201 – Evolution 59.3

This is a very interesting course unfortunately presented in a way that makes it very dry and tedious. The first few lectures were so aimless it was difficult to really understand what we were supposed to be learning from them. The population genetics lectures weren't much better. I ended up having to transcribe the lectures from recordings to find the actual pieces of information that could be taken from them. The lectures did become more interesting, particularly when Steve Salisbury took over. His lectures were interesting, straight forward and presented with enthusiasm. The other modules were interesting, but quite repetitive.

Practicals were as inconsistent as the lectures. Some of the practicals were quite interesting, particularly the ones where you actually got to move around and look at various skeleton structures and fossil models and the like. Others were incredibly dry and felt twice as long as they were. They aren't too difficult, but this will depend greatly on your group and tutor, so just have to get lucky there. Groups are assigned and you have no choice who you will be working with throughout the semester.

If properly prepared, the final exam isn't too hard. You will certainly need to know your stuff as there is no bluffing this exam. Definitely review past exam papers as this helped me a lot. A lot of study time is required for this course.

BIOL2201 – Evolution 60.0

The labs were a real struggle. I feel like 1020 was not enough to prepare me at all. You'll need knowledge from stats as well. The lectures were interesting but content heavy . lots of study is hiiiiighly nevessary . The exam, for my intake, was 10 short answer questions, all of which you had to answer, and there were 5 essay questions, of which you had to choose 2 and write a 2-page essay for each. You'll need to do heaps of prep for this. Course is rewarding and interesting.
