ECON2200 – Management of Financial Institutions 33.4

I felt throughout the whole course like the lecturer didn't really want to put the work in. He seemed engaged when speaking but he contradicted himself constantly on the lecture slides, didn't even give a task sheet or rubric for the first assessment. He claimed to have an 'open door policy' but didn't have office hours and refused to respond to emails, making you contact him through Facebook or Wechat.

ECON2200 – Management of Financial Institutions 92.1

I took the course in the 2020 summer semester, and my course coordinator was Dr. Axel Wieneke. Due to the COVID restriction, the course was fully online with all the lecture videos uploaded onto the blackboard. It was extremely thoughtful as students are scattered all over the world and in different timezones. Having the leisure to study at any time, students can study with their best efficiency and comfort.

Besides the thoughtful design of the course, the assessments and contents were extremely interesting and fun to do. We were given 8 big quizzes and 12 small quizzes. The 8 big quizzes are based on lecture contents and the 12 small quizzes are assessing on interesting and useful weekly readings such as the RBA paper. Some are assessing on movies, such as Big short or Margin call (Both are very interesting movies). All the course contents are easy to read and applicable to the real world. You would have fun studying the course!

Lecturers and tutors are extremely helpful. Axel and tutors are active on the ECON2200 Facebook page to answer any questions. They are always happy to help with any question you may have regardless of how basic the question is. Axel is extremely friendly so feel free to ask him any question you may have.
In conclusion, I would 100% recommend this course to anyone that is looking to learn some useful economic/finance knowledge.

ECON2200 – Management of Financial Institutions 80.7

First, a couple of notes: I did this course in Semester 2 2017, but that is not an available selection under "Semester Taken". When I took the class (and since then) the course coordinator has been Dr Axel Wieneke, not Bryan Morgan as this site suggests.

ECON2200 is an enjoyable course. Depending where you are in your degree, there is quite a bit of overlap with other courses (FINM2400 comes to mind), so it helps solidify certain concepts and aspects of the financial industry. Each week there is something new and interesting, and most importantly applicable to the real world. I like courses like this since it helps you understand what is actually going on when you read or hear about the financial industry/economy in the news.

The lecture slides that Axel puts together are light-on and easy to read, which in turn makes the lectures easy to watch. I feel like I retained more information from ECON2200 than I have from other econ courses, due to both the good content and the way it was taught. I also found that Axel was really responsive to emails and on the blackboard discussion board.

The quizzes are relatively easy, and only the best 6 of 8 count so you have that safety net if you make a few blunders. I found the midsem and final quite easy too, but things like that are relative. If you dont ignore this course until swotvac then you should be fine.

The tutorials are well set out and generally prepare you well for what is on the midsem and the final.
