FINM3405 – Derivatives and Risk Management 67.3

Pretty interesting subject. Pretty difficult though but as long as you keep up with the tutorial questions you can understand the content well. The main thing was to attend the tutorial and to understand the maths behind the calculations and there won’t be any surprises. The lecturerer even admits in the first lecture it’s a really hard course

FINM3405 – Derivatives and Risk Management 80.1

Overall I found this course focused a lot more on the calculation side, bit still relied on theory knowledge in order to be able to create your own arbitrage strategies etc. Much like all the other finance courses, it can sometimes feel quite content heavy and the concepts can sometimes be quite difficult. Once you've wrapped your head around it, you'll be okay.

Before the mid-sem, I made the mistake of focusing too much on the readings/theory understanding, where I should have focused more on remembering payoff diagrams and arbitrage strategies. Luckily, if you don't do well on the mid-sem it's very, very possible to bring your mark back up if you dedicate yourself enough to studying for the final.

I disliked that the lecturer always typed 'please' as 'pls', but he does a decent job explaining concepts that are generally quite complicated. Also there are a lot of supplementary materials and he will always try to relate the content to current/past 'real world' events and examples. Don't hesitate to jump around tutorials until you find a tutorial/tutor that feels right for you.
