GRMN1010 – Introductory German Language 1 63.6

Overall, I found the course to be my favourite subject and I'm a maths major. I found it rather engaging when you were actually interested in learning the language, and it was an excellent introduction to the German language, however, be prepared it can be fast paced and therefore you can

GRMN1010 – Introductory German Language 1 40.1

I took this thinking it would be a fun/useful elective since I'm an engineering major, but it was incredibly difficult because they threw too many difficult things at you in a very short time frame and there wasn't much opportunity to practice speaking even though there was a speaking test. This is not the fault of my tutor, who I can't fault. He was great, friendly, approachable and helpful, but had to rush through all the things in the book. A classmate's sister did senior HS German and said it took her 4 years with daily lessons learn what we were expected to learn in 2.5 hours a week in one semester and she was shocked how how 'rushed' the content was when she looked at the book.

Even in the last week, no one could really speak a fluent sounding basic sentence except for a (particularly pretty) girl (a fact i mention because it kept the classes interesting) who'd previously lived in Germany that I suspect may have downplayed her ability a little to get into an easier class.....

GRMN1010 – Introductory German Language 1 55.7

I enjoyed this course because I have an interest in language study, but I felt as if we were expected to learn too much. We were not given enough time to wrap our heads around a concept before having another one thrown at us. I also didn't like the course materials. It was just a plain typed set of notes when I'd have preferred a nice textbook with activities in it like I have in my French courses. I also feel as if the classes are too big to get the chance to ask questions as needed. I liked the course mainly because I like language study, but there are some serious flaws here.

GRMN1010 – Introductory German Language 1 57.5

I found this course quite difficult despite having previous experience in the language. The course states that it presumes no prior experience but I found that there were many times that I was expected to know the words but had not been taught them. The listening tasks were given too fast and was too difficult to expect a beginner to be able to manage. The topics covered in the course seemed to be focussed on tourism rather than starting with the basics and then progressing.

GRMN1010 – Introductory German Language 1 76.7

This course was not quite as engaging as the French course offered by UQ, but it was successful enough for me to remember the German that I acquired, more than a year after taking the course. Geoff Wilkes was a very good course coordinator and he helped me whenever I needed it throughout the semester.
