LAWS1112 – Law and Society 65.7

Compared to the other two introductory law courses I took this semester, it wasn't as immediately clear why this course was compulsory, as it didn't seem to contain as much essential legal knowledge. However, the lecturer is excellent and kept things engaging - I particularly liked the way he incorporated class discussion into lectures - and the tutorials were very useful throughout the semester - they basically start throwing you practise exam questions from Week 2. In the end, too, I found the way that the course tied into LAWS1111 very helpful - both courses clarified and explained concepts from the other.

The course structure is clearly outlined in Week 1, and this structure is very useful throughout - the first two weeks teach you the skills you need to succeed in the course, the bulk of the course is introducing the course content, and then the last three weeks give you situations in which you can apply the course content. The exam is also very reasonable, given that you have been practising almost identical questions since Week 1.

The textbook is hugely unnecessary, though - readings each week were never longer than about 10 pages, and they didn't say anything that wasn't also talked about in lectures.

LAWS1112 – Law and Society 72.7

The course was probably easy in nature, but I didn't really put any effort into understanding the lectures and doing the pre-readings and my grade reflected that. The lecturer is very friendly and open, and explains topics in detail at a reasonable pace.
